Hi sweet friends! How is everyone doing today?! I am laying on my bed, listening to some music, and sippin’ on some Intelligentsia coffee and I am one HAPPY girl because I swear this is the best coffee in the world. Really hoping it hits me soon because I’m freakin’ exhausted.
But it’s SO worth it.
Because you guys… my brother got married this weekend!!!
My brother, Scott, is four years older than me and lives in Lexington, Kentucky with his now-wife. Ah! So weird to say!! But it has been a LONG time coming because they have been dating for 10 years.
Yes, you read that correctly.
At the wedding I wanted to have a total Charlotte York moment and scream at the top of my lungs “They’ve been together for TEN. YEARS!”
There was something about their 10-year courtship that made the wedding that much sweeter, though. The wedding was freakin’ BEAUTIFUL. It was on Siesta Key Beach in Florida. We were all barefoot with flower crowns in our hair, and the prettiest dresses ever. It was cloudy all day and then as soon as the wedding started the sky opened up and the light streamed down and we were all choking back tears because it was so perfect.
Plus there’s something about watching two people you love get married that is unlike anything else. Jenny has been a part of our family for a freakin’ decade, so she’s felt like a sister forever, and now it’s just official!
The rest of the weekend in Florida was spent playing in the ocean, eating oysters, and way too many margaritas.
It was lovely, magical, and filled with so much love. This weekend, though, I’m officially putting my luggage away and STAYING AWHILE. It is going to feel pretty nice to stay in town for a few days.
I just wanted to stop by, say hi, and share some deets since I posted some pics from the weekend! I will be back tomorrow with a fun new post you won’t want to miss! Xo.
P.S. COMING UP ON TWB: my clear skin secrets, 2017 health trends, why I’m obsessing over deodorant, & some of my fave Whole 30 recipes from other blogs! Subscribe to stay in the know!
Y’all. Not only am I super excited for this post in general because the obsession for NYC is SO real. BUT – it’s my 200th post today! Woo!!! I have SO much fun content coming up for you guys in the next few weeks… I’m going to host another giveaway with some of my FAVORITE products, I’m coming up with delish Whole 30 recipes to kick off the new year, and I’m going to be featuring some healthy Chicago eating spots to help keep those New Years’ resolutions on track.
I can’t wait.
Yes, I’ve had some coffee.
This past weekend I went to New York City with 4 of my besties from college just for a little weekend getaway. Our best friend Brooke lives in Soho and works in store design for a top designer (literal DREAM LIFE), so we went to go see her!
I love visiting Brooke no matter what (I’m weirdly obsessed with her, I copy her style, and I’ve been trying to write a post about this for months but she’s too cool for photoshoots) but I love to be able to just stay at her apartment, be in Soho, and see what she does on a regular day.
So we started our morning off at Two Hands, which is the CUTEST little healthy breakfast spot in Soho. Think: fresh juices (we each got one, I got watermelon because I knew we were about to sweat our booties off at our next stop and watermelon juice is SUPER hydrating), acai bowls, and avocado toast with lemon.
After breakfast we literally SPRINTED to Y7 Yoga because we were running late, per usual.
It’s hot, candlelit yoga, which – I could stop right there. I know they have that basically everywhere now but I’ve never done it so I was amazed that they could make a room pitch black with only candles flickering at 10 AM in NYC. It smelled like sage and it was so quiet. Super cool vibes.
Then once we started, HOLY COW. It was so hard, but felt so good, and if you’re familiar with yoga, they basically teach you one flow, and then BLARE rap music and let you freestyle – you can do the flow you learned, you can do your own thing, you can lay there in child’s pose if you want (cough I did this cough) because it’s so dark in there nobody cares what anyone else is doing. And I loved it because even though I’m all about a relaxing yoga sesh, it was super energizing and empowering and I felt really cool.
So that’s my Y7 rant. But seriously if you’re ever in NYC I highly recommend!
The next day we woke up, hung around the house (aka watched Gilmore Girls for hours in bed snuggling and eating bagels and drinking coffee) and walked to Rosemary’s in West Village. (P.S. You can see Brooke’s soho apartment tour here!)
This is where I need to pause and inform you this consumed the next 5 hours of our day.
Yes, we literally brunched for 5 hours.
I’m not sure if I should be proud or ashamed?
But we honestly had SO MUCH FUN, drank so much red wine, ate so much pasta, and laughed so hard. We stayed for so long I needed a snack at one point because I was already hungry again (shocker) so I opted for warm olives and nobody will ever let me live that down.
In all seriousness though, Rosemary’s is so cute for brunch and I would highly, highly recommend for your next trip! Or if you live there. You should go right now. Seriously. Leave work. And do it.
Other highlights from the trip? Sweet Chick for some fried chicken sandwiches, Local 138 for $4 Stella Artois and our own room to be loud in, Pulqueria for some freakin’ amazing tacos & jalapeño margaritas, Fat Cat for some table games & our friend Abbie’s birthday party (sidenote: Abbie is an amazing photographer – check her out on Instagram @abbieroden), and we went and saw the tree at Rockefeller Plaza which was SO FREAKING COOL and I was smiling like a goon the whole time.
Oh, and a LOT of walking.
So tell me… have you been to NYC? Do you prefer to do the “local” stuff, or are you a tourist at heart? What are your favorite things to do there? Tell me everything!!! I will be back Thursday for a new coffee talk! See you then. Xo.
You guys. I just had the best weekend – well – ever.
I realize you’re probably aware of this if you follow me on Instagram because even Ben was judging my numerous posts per day. I was breaking all the Insta-rules.
Ben & I just celebrated our four year anniversary. FOUR YEARS. The day we started dating was election day and it was the day Obama was re-elected to office. How crazy is that?! It doesn’t feel like it’s been that long at all.
We always celebrate by doing something fun – our 1st anniversary we went to the Shedd Aquarium and then decided we were in the mood for fish (kinda messed up) and went out to dinner for seafood. Our 2nd anniversary we spent way too much money at Chicago Cut (but it was totally worth every penny – SO delicious). Last year we went to Chicago Botanic Garden and Piccolo Sogno.
This year, though, we decided to spend our moolah on an experience instead of just a nice dinner.
And I’m SO glad we did.
After doing a little research we found the CUTEST Airbnb just outside of Milwaukee in the Wisconsin countryside. This was our first Airbnb experience and it really couldn’t have been any better. The loft was SO cute and it felt like home as soon as we got there.
Friday night we ate some wings at Wingin’ It in downtown Helenville. Woke up to the most beautiful sunrise Saturday morning and walked around the property while we had coffee. Drove to Oconomowoc (say that 5 times fast) for more coffee at Whelan’s and burgers at Crafty Cow. Napped. Then re-filled our bellies with pasta from Mangiami in downtown Fort Atkinson and ended our night with s’mores, stargazing, a bonfire, and obviously a little more wine.
All in all it couldn’t have been more perfect. And if you’re ever looking for a weekend getaway from Chicago, this is SUCH a nice weekend retreat that’s only 90-miles away.
So tell me… how do you typically spend your anniversary? Have you ever tried Airbnb? Have you ever been to Helenville?! Tell me everything! I will be back soon with a fun new post. I hope you enjoy the pics! Xo.
(P.S. I can’t take off this red beanie – I’m literally obsessed! …if you couldn’t tell. Hehe.)
Hi friends! How was everyone’s weekend?! Did you guys do anything fun? I actually went back home to Louisville, Kentucky for a friend’s wedding and it was seriously sooooo nice to be home and so great to see my friends. But you guys. Today (Sunday) I am seriously on crack.
I don’t know what it is.
I woke up at 7 AM to drive back. Decided halfway through that I was going to get home and re-organize my closet (idk, COFFEE). So I drove straight to Target, went HAM – I’m talking organizational drawers, the whole shebang – and then came home and cleaned like an absolute psychopath for FOUR HOURS.
Not kidding. Four. Hours.
Yes, like Warner and Elle Woods in the hot tub after winter formal.
Does that ever happen to you? Do you ever just have this moment where you’re like I CAN’T LIVE LIKE THIS and clean out EVERYTHING in your closet/drawers/fridge/pantry?
Maybe it’s just me.
Also – while I was adding clothes to my “donate” pile (which ended up being five trashbags full of clothes – I wasn’t kidding – psycho) I realized that everything I was donating was either super colorful or printed.
I said to Ben “Do you see a pattern here?”
He goes “Yeah, a lot of bad ones.”
Ok so back to the original topic – LOUISVILLE aka my favorite place on earth.
Friday night I spent the evening at my friend’s BEAUTIFUL wedding overlooking the Ohio River.
And Saturday I woke up dying to try a new coffee spot I’ve heard so much about – Quill’s!
It was seriously SO cute. I was obsessed. Wouldn’t recommend their iced coffee but the hot coffee was ah-mah-zing.
And Mumsy and I got extremely caffeinated and then drove around town looking for pretty leaves.
PSA: The leaves in Louisville are still very green.
Then we got home and she made me the BEST salad (I know I already told you this on Snapchat) but Mumsy really does make the best salads. She used fresh spinach and tossed in some toasted almonds, sliced strawberries, green onion, and drizzled poppyseed dressing on top. O-M-G. So freakin’ good.
And then the rest of the day we did a little shopping and finished the evening with a couple of margaritas at Havana Rumba aka my favorite restaurant in the entire world.
I’m loving these bold statements today.
Seriously though, my love of Havana Rumba runs deep. I celebrated my 21st birthday there and everything. THAT’S WHEN YOU KNOW IT’S SERIOUS. Because that’s a commitment.
But honestly, when I’m back home, I really just enjoy kicking my feet up and relaxing and putting my phone and camera down and just being my normal non-bloggy self.
Ok that’s a lie I did act like a blogger, for like, a minute.
So tell me… what did you do this weekend? Did you have any fun plans? Do you also live somewhere different from your hometown? Tell me everything! I will be back tomorrow sharing my delicious fajitas that are perfect for a quick & easy lunch on-the-go! I’ll see you then. Xo.
Hi sweet friends! How is everyone’s week going so far?! Do you have your coffee in-hand and ready for another chat? I don’t know what I did today when I was making the coffee but HO-LY CRAP it’s tasty. I’m kind of chugging. Let’s hope it brings me life because right now I am sleepy and sore.
But why are you sore TWB?
Oh my gosh, SO funny you ask!
Remember last week when we talked about how I don’t work out? Well. That didn’t change much. BUT I worked out yesterday!!! (*slow clap*) I actually went to Studio Three right by my office and got a little Namaste on (aka I did yoga).
And before you judge me for being sore from yoga – it was really challenging! I thought maybe it was just me, but my co-worker who went with me and works out every day said it was also way more challenging than she thought, so I don’t know if she was just trying to help my ego or if that was really true but either way I’M GOING WITH IT.
Last week when we talked about working out, the general consensus is – well – you all work out. Lol! So that was pretty inspiring, and I think it’s awesome!! Quite a few of you suggested Class Pass to me, and I’m definitely down to try! But it seems like everyone has kind of found their niche, even if it took awhile (and for some people, it did, which made me feel better too!)
I just have to keep looking!
SO. Onto this week’s topic.
Take a longgggg sip o’ joe. (OH and btw, did anyone make it to a Luke’s Diner yesterday, speaking of coffee?! If you did, tell me everything!)
Today I want to know: Where would you live if you could live anywhere?
And btw, this is not supposed to be a super-practical question (unless you want it to be!). I’m sure realistically and logistically and all other things -istically we’re limited to where we could live. But just in your dreams. Where would you live?
Ok so call me crazy but lately I have had this overwhelming urge to just live in the middle of nowhere.
And I know my mom, who grew up in the middle of nowhere is going to say NO YOU DON’T!
But seriously yes, I do.
Maybe it was the apple picking this weekend that brought this out from within me but something about being in my boots, in the FRESH crisp air, and riding a tractor (yes that happened) made me feel all kinds of YES.
Don’t get me wrong – I absolutely LOVE Chicago. It was my dream to live here since I visited for the first time when I was 17. But some days it just feels a little… idk… cramped? I just want to look out my window and be surrounded by nature and wake up and actually be able to see the sunrise or just chill around a bonfire or be able to do redneck things like taking a four wheeler out muddin’.
And I know this isn’t a super-specific answer. But that’s because I really think I would be just as content in the California countryside as I would be somewhere in the South, or even in the middle of nowhere in the mountains or something like that.
Anddddd I just realized I sound like a total recluse? LOL. But y’all know what I mean. I think I just need *wiiiide open spaaacessss* -Dixie Chicks.
So now that you think I’m this weird loner that wants to live in the middle of nowhere with my cat LOL!
Tell me about YOU!
Where would you live? Do you dream of living in a city? Out in the country? On the beach? Somewhere super specific like Branson, Missouri or a tiki hut over the water on the island of Bora Bora? Would you have a “place” at all or would you just travel around if you could? Or are you the practical type and you want to live somewhere for a certain reason?
Tell me everything!!!
Comment below, tweet me (yes I have a Twitter with 2-3 followers), Snapchat me (@jillbeangreen), Facebook message me, text me, call me I don’t care!
I’ll be back soon with a fun new post! And coming up on the blog I’m going to be sharing life after Whole 30 and how to convert into a more sustainable diet, date nights, and more fun recipes! See you soon! Xo.
