coffee talk: home reveal + a new chapter

Hi sweet friends!!! How are you today?!

I am finallyyyyy sharing some pictures of my new place. But that would take all of 3 seconds for you to scroll through, so while you do, I’m going to talk about something kind of totally different.

So you’re probably wondering what I mean in my title by a new chapter, right?

Yeah. Well. Let’s take a collective sip of coffee because it’s not really good news for le blog.

You guys. I tried. I really did. But honestly I’m so over it right now. I’m over all of it. I’m over Instagram, I’m over blogging, I’m over affiliate stuff, I’m over it all.

I took a break a few weeks ago to slow down, come back, rebrand a little bit. I thought it would help and I thought it would reignite my flame. And it did for a solid, solid week. But then it left just as quickly as it came. When I took a break, I really saw life without blogging in it, and it felt way too good.

I recently went to the doctor because I wasn’t feeling very well (SUPER foggy-brained, no energy at all, and to top it off I’d been gaining some weight). So we did a ton of blood tests and basically I was completely healthy. So my doctor and I talked about the rest of my life and what might be causing me to be a foggy-brained hot mess (my words, not hers lol). She told me to close my eyes and just listen and tell her the first thing that came to my mind.

I told her I just felt really, really anxious. And when we got to the root of it, my blog was a huge cause of a lot of anxiety. We talked a lot about perfectionism and how it’s affecting me. And my blog also sometimes brings out those feelings of perfectionism and it’s not really helping.

Then I stumbled upon this quote.

Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away” · Whitson Gordon

It really, completely hit home for me. We make things so complicated sometimes when really they’re so simple. And in this case I just need to strip it down to its basics: the blog has been stressing me out and it hasn’t been fun and I need to move on.

I’m still keeping the blog open, I’m not like shutting it down or anything. And I really might be back with some coffee talks every now and then. But as for THE Windy Blonde?

I’m just going back to being JILL.

Seriously. Even on my Instagram (@jillgreen_)

And my plans are to focus on my personal life and my hobbies. I’ve actually started to pick up the momentum quite a bit with my photography (so if you need some pics, totally feel free to hit me up). And at the request of some of my friends I am MORE than happy to help you shop for and/or decorate your house (not kidding at all, if someone actually wants to hire me for this I would be probably the happiest person in the world).

But other than that you can find me at my happiest place: at home, with some coffee in hand, in my pajamas, covered in blankets, and probably watching It’s Complicated.

So thank you all for your love and support, and hopefully you’ll still follow along on my day-to-day life on Insta.  Cheers babes! Xo.

(Also: since I know you will ask – you can shop my pieces below – none are affiliate links, but in case you were curious! xoxo)

(Also, also: I found this apartment by stalking Craigslist. Seriously. I knew exactly where I wanted to live so every day I logged on, switched it to the map view, and checked every apartment in the ‘hood. Then when this one popped up I was the first to reach out and that’s how we got it!)

Life Lately

Hi sweet friends! How is everyone’s week going so far? And how was your weekend?! I actually had a long weekend thanks to Veteran’s Day and it was probably the 3rd best day of my life. Don’t worry I’ll tell you all about it (duh). And I spent the rest of the weekend just hanging out, relaxing, and doing absolutely nothing.

You guys know I love doing absolutely nothing to just recharge, reset, and re-focus.

But I feel like this supermoon is having some crazy effect on me where all of my usual productive energy is just… not there.

And that’s ok sometimes, I think. It’s just not realistic to be productive 24/7.

Plus it’s been nice cutting back a little on the blogging. So I hope you guys still love me even though I feel like it’s impossible right now to hang out more than twice a week.

But anyway.

I want to share a little about what’s been going on!

Ok so in my lazy stupor, I’ve been spending an obscene amount of time on Pinterest. Pinterest is one of those things – like Forever 21 – where sometimes it’s SO GOOD AND YOU MUST PIN IT ALL!!!! And then other times it’s just so mediocre and I just don’t even want to spend time on it.

Pinterest is good right now, y’all.

And it’s been super inspiring to me. Fun fact: I secretly love interior design even though sometimes I have semi-questionable taste. Right now, especially, super-simple, black, white, and green Christmas decor is, like, MY JAM.

So basically after feeling super inspired by my Pin boards (you can follow me @thewindyblonde!) I went to Marshall’s and Michael’s on Veteran’s Day with a cold brew in hand and I’m sure you can imagine how that went…

I told you Friday was the 3rd best day of my life. If you followed my Insta story I’m sure you’re aware.

The best part?

Everything was SO CHEAP.

The bulbs (which are battery operated – no crazy cords which is perfect for a mantle!) were only $9 at Marshall’s. The garland was 50% off for a total of $8 at Michael’s. And I got some white candles which just seemed to fit my little motif at Marshall’s for another $9.

The other stuff? Just previous purchases from Michael’s, Marshall’s and Target that just happened to fit the color scheme.

You guys, I’m really into the scheme.

So honestly? That’s what I’ve been up to. Just re-decorating my apartment for the 50th time (you can see previous pics here and here), watching horrible movies (has anyone seen Age of Adeline and/or Popstar?), meal prepping (will share some of my bowls soon!) and CHILLIN.

So tell me… what have you guys been up to? Is there anything you’re super into lately? Tell me everything! I will be back soon with a fun new post – be sure to subscribe to stay in the know! Xo.

The Windy Blonde Redecorates

Hey guys! Happy almost-Friday! Today is actually kind of Friday for me because I’m off tomorrow for Ben’s brother’s wedding! I’m so excited and can’t wait to revisit Cincinnati.

Today I was kind of stumped about what I should blog about because my days have been jam-packed and I haven’t been able to take any pics for my blog! So I asked around and a few of you guys came up with some really good ideas (which I totally plan on doing soon, btw). BUT I realized I still haven’t shown you the progress I’ve made on mi casa!

I shared my apartment decor awhile back but since then I have repainted the wall color (I was dying every time I looked at it) but the way it happened was so ridiculous I have to share.

I’m kind of a psycho about wall color. Any time I paint, I bring home about 15-20 paint chips, tape them to the wall, and then just soak them in for a few days. And then one day I just point to one and I’m like YEP, THIS IS IT! And then I go buy it and immediately tape it up and get it done and never look back.

So I did the same thing this time, except when I went to Home Depot, I took the paint chip in and the lady behind the paint counter kind of gave me a hint-hint like hey your paint is probably going to be a little dark. And she showed me how to hold the chip up against bare white, and it shows you how the paint will actually reflect.

And basically I went a little crazy and picked a paint chip without ever holding it up to the wall.

This is SO unlike me.

So we get home, and it’s like 8 PM and I just can’t wait another minute. So I tape it up and start painting, and Ben is on the couch (obvi) and he’s like “It’s such a pretty blue!”

We are renters. When I asked our landlord if we could paint, I believe her words verbatim were “Sure, just don’t do anything super crazy like green or blue!”

And here I was painting our walls BLUE.

Panic ensued.

But of course I kept painting.

And luckily for me they literally dried SO pretty and I caught SUCH a lucky break and even though there is a slightly blue-ish tint, it’s definitely not a crazy color and I am obsessed. Even if I have to paint it back before I move out. LOL.

So with all that being said, our wall color is Behr Marquee in River Veil. I’ve done quite a bit of painting and honestly Behr Marquee is by far the closest to a one-coat color. The lady at Home Depot explained that you can get any color in “Marquee” but the only one-coat guarantee is a color from the Marquee selection itself. Just a fun fact. This is fully my opinion BTW. I’m not getting anything from Behr for plugging this wonderful paint. #iwish.

Anyyyyyway, without further ado, here is how it turned out! Enjoy! I will link as much as I can at the bottom of the post 🙂 And if there is anything that isn’t linked, my previous post about my apartment will probably have it!

Just a sidenote – my “art” is super thrifty. The cacti are prints purchased on Etsy for less than $10 and then uploaded to Walgreens. I think I paid $15 for each print by Googling coupon codes.

My horse prints are just pages ripped out of an old book that I found at a flea market. The guy was selling the pages for $0.50 each. All I did was throw them in a frame and voila!

So tell me… do you love the color? Too blue for you? Are you my landlord and I’m evicted? Tell me everything! I will see you Tuesday after the wedding! Woo! See you then. Xo.

Burning Sage

As you may know, I have a friend named Dorothy. Her nickname is Tutu so that’s what I’ll call her from here forward. Anyway, Tutu is kind of like my witch doctor. She’s the one that taught me about qi, cold-pressed juice, and always knows the health benefits of anything natural – bees wax, apple cider vinegar, the list could go on and on. I feel like whenever we hang out I learn about something new that I want to try.

So most recently, we were chatting about relationships and the tension that sometimes comes with living with your s/o. And that’s when she taught me about burning sage.

As you probably know, sage is most widely known as an herb used in cooking. But burning sage is an ancient practice used to purify your home, clean your energy, and lift your spirits. This is called “smudging.”

I know, I know, this is totally hippie.

Tutu suggested that I try it the next time it felt “tense” in our apartment to clear the energy and start fresh. So I went to Whole Foods, grabbed a bundle for about $5, and kept it on hand. I’m not gonna lie, it looks a little bit odd. It’s not like an incense stick or something, it’s a big bundle of green herbs tied with a little string. I wasn’t really expecting this. And trying to take a glamour shot of this wasn’t exactly easy. I literally had to go buy some flowers to spruce it up.

But anyway I kept it on hand, and one night I decided to try it out and see if it really did clear the energy in the house. In order to burn the sage, you basically want to just light the ends of it. I use one of those long lighters for candles, and I just hold it close to the tip of the bundle until a few pieces catch. They burn out pretty quickly, but the smoke itself will let off the sage fumes. Then once I’m done I just run it under some water in the sink to put it out.

The idea is to kind of walk around with it and focus on corners and doorways. I just kind of skip around through the house with it like a baton LOL.

The scent is pretty unique. I can’t really explain it. It definitely doesn’t smell like incense or a candle or anything like that. It’s like burning herbs & spices. But it is super neutralizing for household smells without using Febreeze or other chemical-laden air fresheners. It really only smells for about 5 minutes, and then it fades away and just smells like nothing.

So how did it work? It actually seemed to invoke a sense of calm. Kind of like the scent of lavender. And maybe it was a total placebo effect but it did feel like the whole atmosphere of the apartment was just a little less stuffy. It’s like it literally cleared the air. You know?

Now when I use it, I burn it after late-night qi treatments to continue my zen state, or just in the morning to freshen up the house without opening windows.

So tell me… is this something you would try? Or do you think it’s a crock of you-know-what? Tell me everything! Xo.

The Art of Doing Nothing

Guys. This month has been madness. I have been out of town for the past four weekends. I know that might not sound that crazy (or maybe it does, idk) but I was thinking the other day… I haven’t seen my apartment in the daylight for 4 weeks straight. Not even one day. I’ve been so freakin busy.

I don’t know about you, but my time at home is my time to re-charge. I feel like I’ve been on Low Power Mode with my battery at 20% for way too long.

So while everyone was out of town, at the beach, at the lake, etc. I spent this weekend at home. And it was amazing.

I slept in.

I drank copious amounts of coffee.

I cleaned my apartment. (!!!)

To me, there is so much power in just doing nothing. And doing nothing isn’t always as easy as it sounds. I honestly blame a lot of this on social media. Facebook, Insta, and Pinterest make us feel like we’re the only ones not doing something totally amazing and gives us #FOMO.

But I literally needed a vacation from my vacations.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

And this isn’t to say I didn’t have an amazing time these past few weekends. I’ve made some amazing memories and saw new places and spent time with some of my favorite people in the world. But I just needed like one day to myself.

To think. Read. Nap. Scroll through my Facebook feed until my arm is sore from holding up my phone. Just some me time. I feel like my definition of boredom is so different from everybody else’s. I’m more likely to feel bored when I’m out at a bar than if I’m laying on the couch under a blanket with nothing to do. That’s literally what I look forward to doing LOL. Idk. That’s just me. Am I officially old?

So tell me… Do you ever feel this way? Or do you feel like your energy source is staying constantly busy? Tell me everything! I will be back Thursday with an exciting milestone!! You won’t want to miss it. Xo.
